Shopping Deals?

shopping deals
MdH asked:

Hi, I’m coming over to New York this spring.

My friends who study over here tell me that for great deals go to places like Woodbury Commons. Websites tell me that Seacaucus in NJ is also a good bargain, together with Century 21. Can anybody verify this information for me? And if possible tell me more?

Also, I do shop online, and I know that the big retailers like Macy’s, Saks etc have online sales now and then. Is this also reflected in the actual retail outlet?

And also, are there certain periods or weeks where retailers traditionally hold massive sales. to clear out the previous season’s stock? For example, winter clothing sale to make way for spring. If so, when would these sales be?

Are there still Tax Holidays in New York City? Also, are cosmetics still subject to taxes or are they part of the tax free category? How about leather accessories, footwear, handbags & ties.

If I happen to purchase items that are more than 110 dollars, can I claim taxes back as a tourist?

Century 21 is really a great place and you will find good deals there.

Online, well it varies, sometimes you can find a pair of shoes online for $50 and the store might sell it for $45. Its a matter of luck.

Go shopping at the end of the month, that is when retailers usually discount there already reduced items and such.

I live in NJ, not really sure what the exact rules are in NY. I think if you spend less than $100 you do not get taxed, anything over is taxed.
